Maybe it's because nearly 70% of 8th graders are deficient in math. If we can't teach our kids basic things like reading and arithmetic what are the odds we can teach them more complex principles about economics and social engineering?

More regulation was just passed to benefit car companies at the expense of the consumer. A new rule now requires backup cameras in all new vehicles sold in America. Thanks, government! Don't know what I'd do without you!

Yes, it's an odd title for today's show, but I think I can tie all three of these news stories together into podcasting magic!

You have probably heard by now (because nobody in the media can stop talking about it) that Bill Cosby has been found guilty on three different counts of sexual assault.

On the drive into the studio today I was thinking back to the 1980's. If someone from the future was standing in front of you in 1988, during the hight of The Cosby Show, and told you, "In 2018, at the age of 80, Cosby will be convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman" I think every one of us would say BS!

Cosby has gone from being the poster child for what a father and family could look like in the black community to a liar and rapist. That's nuts!

Tom Cruise did 106 HALO jumps to get the shots needed for his new Mission Impossible movie due out later this year.

I talk a lot about success. How much work it takes to get to the top of the game in any industry and how the best never rest on their past accomplishments.

Regardless of what you think of Tom Cruise the man doesn't take a break. He risks it all (literally) every day to be the best in his field. You gotta respect that. It's a lesson we can all benefit from, and I wanted to take time to share it with you today.

I Don't think people have a grasp of just how big the pension crisis is in America. If all we do is look at public pensions, the problem is insurmountable. Moody's pegs the crisis at the state and local level at a mind-boggling 3.5 TRILLION dollars.

The world is full of people who will make you promises they can't keep. What I hope you take away from today's show is that YOU alone are responsible for your future. Succeed or fail the outcome is on you. Be cautious of anyone who promises you a deal that seems too good to be true.

761: The Culture War

What is the culture war? I was recently asked why I don't spend more time discussing it.

I have to admit I feel like I spend an hour every day fighting against people and ideas that will destroy our country and our way of life.

But I guess because I don't use the term "culture war" some people don't get it or worse yet they don't understand what it is themselves.

"Culture War" is typically a term used by Christian conservatives to describe what they believe is the moral degradation of society. Gay rights, short dresses even rock & roll were at one time singled out as signs American values and culture were under attack.

I've never found much value in fighting a culture war. That kind of virtue signaling I leave to people like Tomi Lahren who lack the education and intelligence necessary to make a defensible case for change based more than emotion.

But I think it's worth addressing since it came up so I'll talk a little about it today.

Gluten Free, Keto Friendly, Low Carb, Cheese Stuffed Burger Dogs

1 - 2 lbs of ground beef or some other type of ground meat
1 - 2 Tbsp of worchestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins)
1 - 2 Tbsp dry minced onions
4 - 5 sticks of string cheese
1 - 2 lbs of bacon

Using a hand mixer or some other type of mixer and mix well.
Using a cutting board and grab some of the beef and press it out onto the cutting board, parchment paper or even wax paper
Take one of the pieces of string cheese and lay it on the beef that is pressed out and wrap the cheese in the meat mixture.

Wrap them in bacon if you want to with 1-2 pieces of bacon per burger dog

Put onto a hot grill and cook them until they are at least 160 degrees internally using a meat thermometer

Remove from grill and place onto a baking sheet and serve.

760: Who Regulates the Regulators?

Yesterday I had a story in the stack I didn't get to dive into as deeply as I wanted. It has to do with regulation and licensing.

I'm glad I didn't spend much time on it yesterday because today we have a couple of great examples in the news about the very subject of regulation. It turns out regulation will likely strengthen companies like Facebook and Google while harming up and coming, competitors.

If you've been listening to this show for very long, you already knew regulation hurts competition, protects large, established companies at the expense of smaller upstarts. Unfortunately, that kind of economic wisdom isn't taught in schools, so most people are oblivious to the danger of regulation and licensing.

752: Warships from Russia and the US Put to Sea as Tensions Mount

The USS Truman carrier strike group with a complement of 7 warships has set sail for Syria. Although it will take them a couple of weeks to get there, the movement has already initiated a response.

Russia has deployed 11 battleships out of the port in Syria for what they are claiming are "military training exercises." Of course, this is nonsense.

But what will the carrier group do when they get to Syria? Will Trump launch an attack? Prime Minister Theresa May has already said publicly they require more evidence (read ANY evidence) that a chemical attack took place while the Russias are claiming they are already on the ground and found no evidence an attack took place.

In a den of thieves and liars, who's telling the truth? Probably none of them. You certainly don't want to trust any of them.

750: US Claims Assad Again Used Chemical Weapons. Where's the Proof?

If you remember, back in February, on this very show I reported on a little-known statement by Secretary of Defense Mattis that the US had "no evidence" Assad used chemical weapons against his people.

That didn't stop them from launching an attack on a Syrian airbase just after Trump took office.

Today we find out the US is again accusing Assad of using chemical weapons and again has no evidence to back it up.

Apparently, there was an attack on a rebel-controlled area of Syria as Assad works to root out the last vestiges of resistance, but there appear to be no evidence the attack used chemical weapons.

Even Fox News is being cautious, referring to an "alleged chemical attack."

And let us not forget, this accusation comes on the heels of a meeting between Turkey, Iran, and Russia over how best to stabilize Syria.

From the beginning, the US has been anything but a good faith actor, and this latest accusation is far too convenient to dismiss out of hand.
